Yes!  You Can Live Here!

So Much To Do ..........

And Kilauea!  You can't miss THE VOLCANO.  Spend hours at the rim, and in the rain forest, and hiking the trails, checking out the Thurston Lava tube, or at the Visitors Center.

We took the photo to the left last summer, and we were in the Pahoa area, about 10 miles from the vent (Pu'u O'o) where the lava has been flowing for over 22 years!  You're only 45 minutes to a 1 hour drive the the top - Volcano National Park.

One of the most exciting times of our lives was standing on the lava flow, looking under your feet, and watching rivers of molten lava flow just feet below us.  Our feet were HOT, but who cared!  We were standing on a growing and moving earth.  Lava was pouring out here, and then over there, and for hours we were mesmerized by this incredible display.  It's not always flowing on top, but when it is, it's a sight you'll never forget.

You're going to fall in love with Hilo.  At about 50,000 population, it's the 2nd largest city in the state.  Hilo hasn't lost the "small town feel", so come on into town and shop, visit the museums, and dine!

Above is Hilo with a snow capped Mauna Kea as a backdrop.

Ahalanui Hot Springs - a public park: For snorkeling or just relaxing in the 95 degree geothermally heated water is a great place to spend an afternoon with family and friends. The inlet is safe and a life-guard is on duty. There are no concession stands, so bring along plenty of food and water. And please don't forget the sunscreen. This is only a five minute drive from our Kapoho vacation rentals!

To the left is the HIlo Bay and Coconut island.

And don't forget Pahoa!  Pahoa is a funky little throw-back town frequented by locals, hippies, new-agers, and a supporting cast of colorful characters who defy description.   Take way the cars and paved road, and you've got the wild west.  Raised wooden sidewalks (boardwalks), stores stocked with both the local and exotic and wonderful restaurants of great ethnic variety:  Thai (Ning's and Sukothai), Mexican (Luquin's) and many other great restaurants with quality food.  If you're staying in the Kapoho area, then you'll be in our "neck of the woods".  Remember, when you visit here, you're in the Real Hawaii.  We're "off the beaten path", and that's what makes East Hawaii so very special.  You can choose the regular "tourist traps", or the beauty and experience that Hilo and East Hawaii have to offer!  So, what are you waiting for?  Come on over!

YES!  There's plenty to do........

You're going to love starting the day with a Kapoho sunrise.  On the mornings when the clouds are breaking up just at the right time, nature paints a fleeting, spectacular series of pictures.  A Kapoho sunrise and a cup of Kona coffee is about as close to perfection as your going to get.  And, ALWAYS keep a camera with you!

HILO!
